‘The Source’ and the series I'm currently working on, visually decipher the complex world of our emotional landscapes. Created using images of inks, oils, and paints captured photographically in my studio, I combine and manipulate dozens of layers (sometimes more) on the digital canvass to reveal internal light sources, organic forms and surreal but intuitively recognizable shapes that visually translate the forces of grief, transition, healing and transformation in our lives.
‘The Source’ is first in my Emotional Landscape series inspired by (actually, really created by) my healing journey. As forces of gravity, water flow, buoyancy, air and tensile friction play on all of the elements in this image so do emotions, thoughts, feelings, circumstances and events play forcefully on our state of mind. I’m fascinated with how all the shapes, billowing clouds, the translucence of smoke and fabrics combine in striking and unpredictable ways much like how our secret internal lives play out.

JIM'S ART PROCESS
The bursts and forms are produced underwater in the studio using Jim's 'Edge of Light' technique. Each image is 'painted' digitally using 1000's of brushstrokes, masterfully learned techniques and many, many layers taking many days to complete. The dramatic limited edition art prints featuring this 'Emotional Landscapes’ artwork are selling worldwide. Jim uses the industry's best Canon lenses and cameras to capture the split second dances of light, water, oils, paints and magic.
